John Innes's Tulagi Buildings Pictures
The Raider Association in the last few years built a new school building on the island of Tulagi, Tulagi is across Iron Bottom Sound from Guadalcanal and was liberated by the 1st Raider Battalion. The school there is located right where the Raiders landed, on what was then called Blue Beach.
John Innes, an Australian who’s quite possibly the greatest living authority on the battles in and around Guadalcanal has sent us a few pictures of the buildings there.
He says that the Tulagi building looks in good shape. They are putting fans in the rooms as they get a little hot. The Raider bar seen below is in the Raider Hotel on Tulagi. They also have the story of the raiders on the wall. The hotel is named in honor of the Raiders.
